Prior to 2014 The FDA of the United States considered hemp oil (and its derivative CBD) to be a dietary supplement (not a medication), since they are made from industrial hemp plants. In 2014 GW Pharma started NDA (New Drug Application) trails on epidoilex as a treatment for epilepsy. It is now the FDA's opinion that CBD can no longer be sold as a food item or dietary supplement due to not being marketed as one prior to 2014 trials. We disagree with this opinion and feel that there is plenty of proof that Hemp products containing naturally occurring cannabinoids have been marketed as food and dietary supplements since the late 90s.
