"Can Hemp Extract Help You Stop Smoking Marijuana?"

Let’s face it, smoking anything can harm your lungs and lead to complications. Although the effects of marijuana smoking on the lungs are less harmful that tobacco smoking overall, there are still side effects and unpleasant results for people who smoke marijuana heavily in any form. In this article, we’ll take a look at studies on marijuana smoking, secondhand marijuana smoke, and how both smoking marijuana and hemp extract consumption affect a person. Finally, we’ll look at a study that says replacing marijuana smoke with hemp extract may help you quit smoking marijuana. Sounds interesting, right? Let’s get started.

What Happens When You Smoke Marijuana?

The American Lung Association (ALA) says any type of smoke is harmful to the lungs because of toxins released during combustion. The ALA notes that since marijuana smokers inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than cigarette smokers, there may be more exposure to tar. That said, there are many regulations controlling the chemicals used to grow commercial and medical cannabis, so the effect of dangerous chemicals should still be much higher in tobacco smokers. Johns Hopkins University conducted a study on the effects of secondhand marijuana smoke in 2015, which demonstrated that exposure to secondhand smoke results in absorption of cannabinoids and mild subjective and behavioral/cognitive effects. In other words, being in an unventilated room with a lot of marijuana smoke for one hour will affect a person – you may get a bit high, and you will also absorb some of the cannabis simply from breathing it in. (These effects, however, were not found when the subjects were in a ventilated room.) Regardless of whether you smoke in a ventilated room or not, don’t smoke inside, and don’t smoke around your kids, ever.

A 2012 study from the American Thoracic Society found that regular smoking of marijuana causes “visible and microscopic injury to the large airways that is…associated with…symptoms of chronic bronchitis that subside after cessation of use.” So, heavy marijuana smoking does damage your lungs, but just like tobacco smoking, many of those negative effects go away when you stop smoking. The study found no link between marijuana smoking and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD. (This is a disease that people who smoked for years often get – it can require daily medication to help patients breathe.) The study also found no increased risk for marijuana smokers for cancer for light to moderate use. The study concluded that there was much lower risk for regular, heavy use marijuana smokers of lung diseases than regular tobacco smokers. Marijuana smoke has been used since the 19th century to help asthma sufferers breathe more easily, as it opens up the lungs instead of constricting them like tobacco smoke does. While smoking marijuana does make you cough and get that yucky stuff in your throat (sputum) that you may have to cough up, the effects are much less in marijuana smokers than tobacco smokers.

What Happens When You Consume Hemp Extract?

Hemp extract can be consumed without smoking, vaping, or other types of combustion; you simply put it in your drinks or your food. There is no combustion necessary, and your lungs cannot be harmed through eating or drinking hemp extract. Also, there is not enough THC in Green Lotus Hemp extract to get anyone high – its benefits are purely positive and may even help your body stay healthy by promoting homeostasis. Utah has recently started conducting a study on the effects of hemp extract on children with intractable epilepsy, and other studies like it have already been conducted with positive results. A 2013 study of a 14-year-old with terminal acute leukemia in her brain and in her body treated with hemp extract found that blast cells decreased to nearly zero following increasing doses. Additionally, a study at Hebrew University demonstrated that extracts derived from the hemp plant are more effective than synthetic hemp medicines made in a lab. You do the math – it seems to me that hemp extract is overall the best way to keep a body healthy, and that smoking marijuana is unnecessary unless you want to.

Can Hemp Extract Help You Stop Smoking Marijuana?

Now, say you agree with me, and think that you should stop smoking marijuana for the health of your lungs and airways – but think it may be tricky to stop. You might smoke it with friends or family, or be exposed to it often when you’re out and about on weekends. What if hemp extract could help you stop smoking marijuana or even wanting to smoke it? This study, conducted in 2015, found that a bipolar patient who wanted to quit smoking marijuana daily used hemp extract to decrease his anxiety and help him sleep – effectively counteracting the effects of the THC in his system from smoking marijuana. Following the hemp extract daily dosage, the patient stopped smoking marijuana completely. The patient got a better job, and his moods also stabilized, allowing him to be “more interactive with his family and friends.” While this is only one study on one person, it demonstrates the benefits of consuming hemp extract instead of smoking marijuana for him.

What Are the Benefits of Hemp Extract?

Hemp extract has been shown to have numerous benefits to the human body and mind – some consider it a nutritional supplement, a daily medicine, and a help to people with various diseases and disorders, from epilepsy to schizophrenia, to fibromyalgia. Overall, hemp may improve the immune system response through the endocannabinoid system (ECS) that exists inside everybody on the planet.
